How do you make a film-preservation workshop feel like it belongs in Odisha without turning it into a poster promoting tourism? For the Film Heritage Foundation’s 2025 Bhubaneswar edition, we looked to Odisha’s cultural and cinematic heritage to create a visual language that belonged to the place, not just the event.
Drawing from Odisha’s Ikat weaving tradition, one of the world’s oldest textile forms, we layered contemporary Ikat patterns around an iconic still from Maya Miriga.
The still’s caged bird took on a new meaning in this context, becoming a metaphor for the many films waiting to be restored and released.
