Scope of work

Brand Positioning & Identity, Brand Guidelines, Brand Strategy, Brand Communication, Space Design

Punkah House evokes the historic moment when a region with a richly layered history stood on the cusp of freedom. The mood was jubilant and celebratory, with a grand sense of optimism and hope. And that is the spirit that gives Punkah House its “past-modern” identity.

Design Stack conceptualized, positioned and created the visual identity for Punkah House. Punkah House reinterprets the gourmet traditions of India, Ceylon and Burma – three diverse nations united by a shared history.

It draws from a hybrid past that is both deeply rooted in the local ethos and influenced by a European aesthetic.

The visual identity captures the vintage character of the space, with a distinctly modern minimalism in typography and imagery. The palmyra punkah from the logo becomes the signature graphic, eloquently echoing the mood and theme. The colour scheme – with its accent on deep reds and grey-greens – evokes the lushness of the era while acknowledging its sepia character.
